An improperly installed dishwasher drain hose can allow waste to enter your dishwasher.

Bypassing an airgap not a good idea! If your made to then it’s code and code minimum! Do you want the minimum protection on your dishwasher? NOPE! The airgap will help prevent gas intake into your dishwasher by drawing inside home air into the line rather than hazardous sewer gas into it during very brief times of suction from the motor.

Excellent! Just what I needed to know – I’m putting in a new drain.

yes it is a helpful video except for the dumbass who put his 2 cents in on the airgap. which by the way “pbr” i have installed hundreds of dishwashers without the airgap and they worked fine you dont need it unless your made to use it.

The local “township or county” ordinance can not over ride a basic plumbing code rule from the state. If you need help installing an airgap call a licensed master plumber. It’s not hard to put one in correctly.

I just bypassed my AIRGAP because when the dishwasher drained water went all over. It continued to do so even after I replaced the AIRGAP Assembly. So I ended up calling my township and asked if they were needed and they said that they were not required to pass code here. It goes by township or county ordnance codes its not a law to have one. They did suggest a loop though and to make sure the top of the loop is higher than the bottom of the sink to prevent backwash.

You can not just loop the drain hose up under the counter. You need to have an AIRGAP fitting to be compliant with plumbing codes. What you are suggesting is illegal. I would suggest contacting a licensed plumber before giving advice on something you are not qualified to do.
